1 review for Seydel Session Steel Harmonica – Richter

  1. Nigel Wardle (verified owner)

Seydel seem to have deliberately designed this harmonica to look cheap, presumably to contrast it against their expensive 1847/ ‘Silver’ diatonics. Even the ‘real leather’ pouch it comes with is inferior to the one supplied with the 1847s. But for my money in every other respect, this beats the 1847s hands down. It is great to play; the cover plate design is a real improvement on the usual traditional shape favoured by most manufacturers, Seydel included. My first harmonica was a Hohner Super Vamper and although most modern diatonic harmonicas no longer suffer from rusting cover plates and warping combs, yet the basic shape has for the most part not changed in 50 years. I use Suzuki Pro Master, Lee Oskar and Seydel Silver and enjoy playing none more than the Session Steel. It plays true and sweet, but will also take as much torture as you care to give it; blow hard, blow soft -there’s plenty of volume. I’ll have to wait and see what its longevity is like, but would be very surprised if I don’t get years out of it.
