The Hohner Big River is an attractive and robust instrument offers an ideal basis for beginners. Streamlined covers with side vents, plastic comb and brass reed plates offer a fantastic price/quality ratio, and is the entry point in Hohner' range for a German built harp. The Big River is part of Hohner's MS line, which allows components from any of the MS models to be interchangeable. So, it is possible to marry Big River cover plates with a Blues Harp comb and Meisterklasse 580/20 reed plates. The brand name ”Blues Harp® “ has attained cult status in the contemporary music scene. The Hohner Blues Harp MS model features a functional design combining a wooden comb, high covers without side vents and high quality reed plates to give the instrument its typical bluesy sound, which has made it immensely popular with beginning and intermediate players alike. Every now and again, a branded article achieves such a high degree of success and widespread distribution that the brand name becomes synonymous with the generic product. It features a lightweight metal comb and 1.05 mm reed plates - slightly thicker than the standard 0.9mm reed plates on the other MS models, for a richer tone. Ergonomically designed, with timelessly elegant chrome-plated covers that enable fast movement up and down the holes. Tuning of this harp, like other MS models, is slightly closer to equal temperament than many of Hohner's other harmonicas, making it particularly suited to playing single note melodies. Andrew Zajac Custom Dark Comb - MS Series is made from an earth-friendly composite of 100 per cent recycled paper, resin produced from naturally occurring raw materials and selected natural pigments. This material is strong, dense, waterproof, hypoallergenic, and does not emit any volatile organic compounds, including formaldehyde. It has been certified food safe, contains no petroleum-based chemicals and doesn't have an odour. These combs have all the benefits of a flat, unsealed Pearwood comb with none of the drawbacks. This material allows Andrew to focus on flatness without compromising the look and feel. We do not know of any material that is better suited for harmonica combs. Dark combs™ have a glossy smooth front for comfortable playing. Over time and with use, these surfaces will develop their own natural shine as they become worn in.
